Best Time to Visit Koh Samui: Tourist Guide & Travel Tips

What is the best time to visit Koh Samui? It’s a tricky question to answer as there are so many things to see and do. The island of Samui is a tropical paradise made up of tiny islands and is a great tropical holiday spot. Here is a brief traveller’s guide on when is the best time to visit:

The summer months are the best time to be on the island. Between June and September the island of Samui is packed full of exciting activities. At this time of the year the markets are packed full of souvenirs, or at least as busy as they get. Shopping here is a real adventure! For those not into shopping, the beaches and water sports are highly recommended.

A good way to save money during the off-peak season is to take advantage of day tripping. There are a number of day tripping options available, and each one is worth checking out. The cheapest way to experience Samui is to take a bus, but the experience will be less than what you expect. Buses are very expensive and don’t give you a great view of the island.

One option for day tripping is to go horseback riding on the island. Horseback riding is a unique experience that is easy to enjoy and relatively inexpensive. The best time for this is in April when the lush coconut trees begin to show their seasonal fruits. If you plan to do this trip in April it is advisable to visit Koh Samui between December and March, as the coconut trees are not ready yet. When visiting Koh Samui, it is always recommended to hire a bike. Bikes are not allowed inside most hotels and vehicles are best rented in the mainland.

If you love swimming, then Koh Samui has the most amazing and gorgeous beaches. There are plenty of hotels and resorts offering Samui beachfront tours, but the best time to check them out is at the wet season ( June – September). The beaches are exceptionally beautiful and there are usually an abundance of local and foreign tourists. When visiting Koh Samui, it is highly recommended to book a tour package. Tour packages include air tickets, hotel transfers, lunch, dinner, drinks, guided safari, snorkeling and more.

Fishing is another favourite pastime for Samui locals. They like to fish for halibut, mackerel and other delicious local fishes. The best time to catch these delicious fish is from April to November. The water is teeming with fishes and larger than usual fish fry are seen during the summer months. It is important to have fishing tackle and proper clothing to avoid getting caught and injured by larger fish. These smaller fishes tend to be quite aggressive.

Beach activities are always popular, and one of the most popular is surfing. Funchal is located on the northwest coast of Koh Samui. Funchal hosts some of the best surf beaches in Thailand, and visitors can view the fantastic waves from the shaded, calm areas known as’surf break’. If you want to try your hand at surfing, you must visit the Seran Thai beach, which is 30-metres long and has soft, smooth sand.

If you’re a nature lover, you’ll find that there’s never a dull moment in Koh Samui. The tropical weather conditions are always great for going hiking, cycling or just taking a walk. In fact, you don’t even need to hike through the forest – in Koh Samui, you can have a romantic dinner on a private beach and watch the sun set over the waters. It’s the ideal way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon.
